Gluconolactone is a naturally occurring polyhydroxy acid (PHA) with moisturizing and antioxidant properties. Gluconolactone can be produced by enzymatic oxidation of D-glucose. Its ability in free radical scavenging accounts for its antioxidant benefits. 
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) provide an exfoliating effect when used in skin care products.  Chemical exfoliation removes excess corneocyte build up, more commonly known as dead skin cells that remain on the skin’s surface giving it a dull appearance. This exfoliation in turn stimulates cell trunover resulting in a more polished, smoother, translucent surface. 
The key molecule involved in skin moisture is hyaluronan or hyaluronic acid (HA), a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) with a unique capacity to bind and retain water molecules.  Hyaluronic acid binds up to 1,000 times its weight in water.
Skin relies critically on these HA-bound water molecules in the dermis and stratum corneum for proper hydration.  However, levels of HA naturally present in the skin decrease with each passing year, resulting in dermal dehydration and wrinkle formation, a process accelerated by free radicals. 
Gluconolactone is a PHA that may also help to boost the elastin in skin providing protective benefits against UV damage. 
Products containing AHAs can help with a wide variety of conditions, such as smoothing fine lines and surface wrinkles, improving skin texture and tone and unblocking and cleansing pores.
The degree of exfoliation and skin renewal depends largely on the type and concentration of the AHA as well as the pH and the other ingredients that are present in the product. 
The pH level of the AHA is what defines the absorption by the skin and also how gentle the formula is.

Gently massage 1-2 pumps of cleanser into wet skin in an upward, circular motion.
